AI Citation Tracker — who do AI engines cite in your category?

AI citations are the URLs an AI assistant links as sources in its answer — the currency of AI-era visibility. This tracker shows which domains ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and 4 other platforms cite for your category's questions, verifies every citation with a real URL match, and monitors daily whether your own pages enter or leave the cited set.

Why are AI citations the metric that matters?

When an AI assistant answers a buying question, the handful of cited sources capture the recommendation — everything else is invisible. Citations are also self-reinforcing: pages that AI engines cite get read, linked and mentioned more, which raises the probability of future citations. Measuring citations tells you, concretely, who currently owns your category's answers.

Citations differ from mentions, and conflating them inflates visibility reports. A mention is your brand name in the answer text; a citation is a verifiable link to your domain. Models hallucinate names — they do not hallucinate working URLs to your site.

How does verified citation tracking work?

Each tracked prompt produces a daily, per-platform citation record:

  • The prompt runs live on each platform from its assigned target country (16 supported) — no cached answers.
  • Every URL in the answer is extracted and matched against your domain. Only a real match records “Cited”; name-only appearances record “Mentioned” separately.
  • Competitor domains in the same answers are recorded too, building a citation share-of-voice for your category.
  • History is kept per prompt and platform, so you can trace exactly when a citation appeared — and which published content earned it.

What does citation data change in practice?

Citation tracking converts GEO from guesswork into a feedback loop. Our own first measurement in mid-2026 is a typical example: 0 citations across 183 category answers while a single competitor held 33 — a precise map of which questions we were losing. Each uncited question becomes a content brief; each published piece gets verified by whether citations follow. That loop — measure, produce, verify — is what Seomatiq automates end to end.

After the check — how does the system work?

Measure, produce, publish, prove — in one platform

Seomatiq is a loop, not a one-off checker: it measures where you stand in AI answers, produces the missing content in your brand's voice, publishes it, and proves daily whether citations follow. The four panel modules carry that loop end to end.

In the panelPrompt Explorer

Who gets recommended when your customers ask AI?

Runs any question live across 7 AI platforms from any of 16 countries, and shows which brands and sources each answer cites.

Business impact: you see the exact questions your competitors are winning — so content investment follows evidence, not guesses.

In the panelAI Visibility

Is your visibility growing or quietly disappearing?

25-500 tracked prompts (by plan) are scanned daily across all 7 platforms: citations (verified URL match), mentions, sentiment and competitor share — recorded per target country.

Business impact: you get an email alert the moment a citation is lost — silent visibility decay stops being possible.

In the panelContent Engine

Who writes the answers you're missing?

Crawls your site, finds the content gaps, and generates every draft in AI-citable format — question headings, answer capsules, FAQ schema automatic — publishing to WordPress in one click, Shopify natively, or 5 export formats for any platform.

Business impact: no agency queue, no writer management — the path from gap to published page runs itself.

In the panelBrand Voice

Does the content sound like you?

Your brand profile (tone, terminology, target market, competitors) feeds every generation — drafts read like your brand, not generic AI text.

Business impact: every published piece keeps your brand consistent; revision-round time disappears.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly counts as an AI citation?+

A working URL to your domain inside the AI answer's sources or body. Seomatiq only records “Cited” on a verified URL match; brand-name text without a link is recorded separately as “Mentioned” — a deliberate hallucination guard.

Can I see which competitors get cited?+

Yes. The tracker records every domain cited in your tracked prompts' answers, so you see your category's citation share of voice and which competitor owns which question.

Which platforms does citation tracking cover?+

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude and Microsoft Copilot — on every plan, with daily automatic scans.

How do I earn citations for questions I'm losing?+

Publish content that answers the exact question with extraction-friendly structure: question-phrased headings, an answer in the first 40-90 words, citable facts and FAQ schema. Seomatiq's Content Engine generates and publishes these pieces from your gap list, and the tracker verifies whether the citation follows.

Is there a free way to try it?+

Yes — the live check on this page is free (3 queries/month with a free account): ask a category question and see which domains each platform cites right now.
